Buffalo
A low-input native grass option for sunny, open areas where drought tolerance and reduced maintenance matter most.
Is Buffalo Sod Right for Your Yard?
Buffalo sod is a warm-season native grass option known for drought tolerance and low-input maintenance. It can be a smart choice for sunny, open areas where the goal is a natural-looking lawn with less mowing and lower fertilizer needs.
Buffalo grass is not the best fit for every residential lawn. It generally performs best in full sun and lower-use areas, and it may not provide the same dense, manicured look as Bermuda, St. Augustine, or Zoysia.
- Best for: sunny open spaces, lower-use lawns, slopes, and low-maintenance areas.
- Keep in mind: Buffalo is not ideal for heavy traffic or heavily shaded areas.
- Popular varieties: Prairie and 609 Buffalo.
